Vintage Graphic - Lovely Gray and Black Bird - Magpie
This beautiful Vintage Bird Image is from an 1890's book. I'm told this is a Magpie (thanks to the 2 readers that clued me in!). I think the gray and black coloring looks quite striking on him!
He is beautiful. We we're brought up with the old superstition that seeing a magpie was an ill omen, which you could counter by greeting them very politely. I still say "Good Morning Your Grace" whenever I see one!
Jeg kom tilfældig forbi din blog. Jeg har kigget mig lidt omkring. Smukke billeder. Tak for kigget. Håber du og din familie har haft en glædelig jul. Ønsker dig og dine et godt nytår.
Perhaps your pic doesn't do him justice but the ones I saw for the first time a couple years ago seemed much fancier. Maybe Canadian magpies are different?
Yes, a magpie. And one is very unlucky (one for sorrow, two for joy etc.) So, yes, I greet a magpie formally too, with 'Good morning Mister Magpie, how is your good wife?'
Thank you so much for leaving a comment on my blog! Although, I am not able to respond to all of the comments left here, please know that they are always appreciated!! Karen P.S. A note to SPAMMERS - Your comments will be deleted, you are wasting your own valuable time and mine.
European Magpie - It's a wonderful graphic. Thanks!
